History of Ballet at The Snows of Khione Ballet Academy

Our Purpose

At TSK, the mission goes further than preparing dancers for an original production. The Academy provides an environment of recognition, support, and professional respect; this is where dedication, discipline, and artistry are acknowledged, and where dancers are empowered rather than simply tested. Here, performers experience mentorship, artistic guidance, and opportunities for visibility through editorial coverage and brand partnerships, allowing their work and presence to be seen and valued. TSK is committed to redefining the ballet landscape, combining rigorous artistic standards with a culture of empathy and professional development. By introducing new stories, concepts, and music, the Academy ensures that ballet is not only a stage for technical excellence but a platform for innovation, aspiration, and sustainable careers.

In the words of Diamond Brown from She’s SINGLE Magazine:
"Companies such as the National Ballet of China invest heavily in both traditional and new productions. Governments in these regions often fund ballet as a symbol of cultural sophistication, which encourages expansion and experimentation. Audiences there also tend to view ballet as aspirational and modern rather than outdated."

TSK is proud to be an academy where ballet is seen as both a rigorous art form and a respected, forward-looking profession, offering dancers the tools, opportunities, proper compensation, and recognition they deserve.

Performance Track

The Performance Track at The Snows of Khione Ballet Academy is a highly selective, audition-based casting and development system designed to prepare dancers for the Academy’s winter production, The Snows of Khione: Winter Kingdom.

Audition and Selection. Dancers begin by submitting a global audition. Those demonstrating technical strength, artistic potential, and performance readiness are invited to a callback. Following the callback, the Academy formally casts dancers into defined roles, including two principal positions and ensemble placements for developing performers.

7-Week Performance Track (October–December). Selected dancers enter a structured rehearsal and training residency where weekly work is directly tied to their assigned roles. Training is rigorous and performance-driven, focusing on alignment, control, musicality, and expressive clarity in preparation for the stage.

Mentorship and Artistic Continuity. Principal dancers from the previous season return during rehearsals to mentor newly cast performers, passing down interpretation, discipline, and stylistic detail. Faculty instruction further ensures consistency in both technical execution and artistic vision across each generation of dancers.

Compensation and Opportunities. Dancers in the Performance Track may receive weekly compensation of up to $800 during the active season, reflecting the Academy’s commitment to supporting serious artists. Additional benefits may include access to select resources, coordination services, and opportunities for media and editorial exposure connected to the production.

Pointe Training

Pointe work is required for roles in which it is integral to the choreography. Dancers are expected to enter the audition process with a fully developed pointe technique, as all work is set at a performance level from the outset, particularly within principal and classical ensemble roles.

Classical Ballet Technique

A strong classical ballet foundation is required for entry into the Academy’s performance pipeline. All choreography is set at a performance level and demands clarity, control, and musicality throughout an intensive rehearsal period. Dancers are expected to arrive fully prepared, as the process does not accommodate foundational training.
